Admitted to legal practice in Iran in 2009, Dr Khiavi has advised and represented individuals, founder-led businesses and companies at different stages of growth. His work includes drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, business advice, advocacy and arbitration, including selected agreements valued in the millions of pounds.
His PhD at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London, examined governance and member participation in occupational pension schemes. Completed in 2024, it explored how institutions allocate authority, exercise discretion and remain accountable. His writing includes a forthcoming Routledge book and research on governance, arbitration and dispute resolution.
As a Lecturer in Law at William College, he teaches Contract Law, Trusts and Equity, Professional Lawyer and Introduction to Legal Practice. Teaching brings another discipline to his advisory work: explain the rule clearly, test it against the facts and show what it means for the next decision.

How the work is led
Dr Khiavi leads every engagement. The product or business context comes first, followed by an agreed scope, fee, timetable and set of outputs. If a matter needs reserved legal work or expertise outside that scope, the boundary is made clear from the outset.
You work directly with me to define the issue, review the relevant documents and discuss the advice. For ongoing support, we agree how to stay in touch and which matters take priority.
I first review what your product does, how it uses data, who your customers are and where you plan to operate. This helps identify the legal issues relevant to your business and prioritise the contracts, compliance work or governance arrangements you need.
Before work begins, we agree the services, fee, timetable and deliverables in writing. Depending on your needs, this may be a readiness review, a governance pack, commercial and data launch support or ongoing fractional counsel. Any additional work is agreed separately.
Consultations and explanations can be provided in English, Persian or Azerbaijani. We agree the language of written documents at the outset, taking account of your team, counterparties and target market.
